First Baptist Church

Dr. Don Wilton is Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Spartanburg, South Carolina, with a membership of over 6,500. Through the weekly broadcasts of the church services and The Encouraging Word ministry, Dr. Wilton speaks to an additional 150,000 viewers every week.

First Baptist Spartanburg has a rich heritage. Started in February of 1839 as the only Baptist church in the area, it quickly grew. People were pleased to have a place to worship "in the city." Currently in its fourth house of worship, FBS has committed to stay in the heart of the city, reaching out to the lost in Spartanburg and beyond. They offer a full program for all ages. But more than programs, FBS offers families a place to worship together and grow in God's grace.

First Baptist Spartanburg began broadcasting its weekly worship service live in 1956 on the local CBS affiliate WSPA. In 2004 a vision was cast that lead to the creation of The Encouraging Word. On Easter Sunday 2005, The Encouraging Word began to broadcast this ministry weekly across the country.

The Encouraging Word is just beginning and already great things are happening. God is using The Encouraging Word. Our prayer is that this ministry will continue to grow and draw people into the Kingdom of God.
